This started as just a detailed mountain doodle, but I changed my mind and wanted to try and conquer scope.
Looking back at the first mountain landscape, it’s way too dark and the lack of definition really hurts in trying to discern the scope.
For the background mountains on this one, I had to tell myself to stop detailing, use blur, and fade then out. Very basic, but it’s hard to remember when you don’t know the full scope of the project.
I also used more obvious framing to help direct the composition. The left mountain may still be too detailed, but it’s dark enough where I don’t think it’s offensive to the overall composition.
Another difference was using layers and layers groups more purposefully. Not only does it help with rearrangement, but being able to alter just the highlights or midtones is a big time saver.
And I also found a use for liquify, which is new to the program since I last used it. The silhouette of the fox was pushed around using it while referencing Google images and trying to make it more obviously a fox. It was going to be a person, but I’ve done that before.
